Summer Beauty Smoothie

Summer is almost well and truly upon us. It's been a weird few weeks here in NYC with temperatures ranging from 50 fahrenheit all the way up to 89 like it was today. But, luckily for a heat seeker like me, the warmth seems to be here to stay. This AM I woke up sticky and hot, so after a dip in the pool and a little sunbathing I made this amazing smoothie. I think it's a new favorite. Not only does it promote skin health (you will be glowing), but it's also going to kick fat in the butt. I had this smoothie just before the gym and I felt amazing. Keep reading for the recipe and breakdown of all the awesome health benefits.

Summer Berry Beauty Smoothie
  • 1/4 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1/4 cup frozen (or fresh) pomegranate seeds
  • 1/4 cup frozen peaches
  • 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 cup fresh kale
  • 1 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds (optional)

I know it seems like a lot, but, if you have a Stop & Shop near you they sell the first four ingredients together in a frozen fruit medley called Peach Berry in the frozen section and it's already all mixed together with that ratio! So convenient. If you don't live near a Stop & Shop, you can definitely find all those ingredients at your local supermarket, and, since it's summer, those ingredients will all be cheaper (frozen or fresh!)
Now, for the healthy bits! Any dark berry like blueberry, raspberry, and pomegranate is amazing for your skin because they're chock full of antioxidants. Antioxidants fight against free radicals which attack your skin over the years. They've also been shown to fight cancer! Raspberries have fat fighting properties as well. Blueberries can improve your memory. Pomegranate helps you sleep, improves your skin, and protects your heart. Peaches boost your immune system, fight stress, anxiety, and even cancer. Pineapple is a big player in the fight against inflammation. As an allergy sufferer and someone who uses their body a ton, I made pineapple 1/2 of the whole smoothie! Pineapple is also great for people who suffer from bowel discomfort, it reduces the risk of arthritis, and cuts down on your risk of Alzheimer's! Kale adds a massive ton of fiber and iron, it boosts your metabolism, and detoxes your body. Chia is a great ancient grain that's been featured a lot here on MNYL. I'm a huge fan for it's fiber, digestion help, and protein, magnesium, potassium, antioxidants, and calcium!
Now go out there and stock up on all these yummy, bountiful, ripe fruits and veggies in your local supermarket. You'll be wanting to make this smoothie a lot!
