Accessorizing Your Winter!

Aren't you tired of this winter? If you're on the East Coast, you're probably 100% done. I know I am. It was cute at first, but this is just excessive and I'm really, really over it. Because of this excessive chill and ridiculous cycle of snow, ice, slush, snow, ice, slush, I have been relegated to boring snow boots, black coats, and utility wear.
Okay...maybe that's a total lie. It could be a total ice-out and I would still wear my heels and cuff my jeans. Which I have done. I don't even own snow boots, honestly. BUT, for all those out there who are tired of the dullness of Winter colors, I have a fun, easy, budget-friendly solution for you! While winter is on it's way out from most of you, for a lot of us it's still in full force. Beat winter back with... Accessories!
They're a really easy way to let your personal style chine through in an otherwise bland amalgamation of blacks and down. You feel me. Metallics, bright colors, textures, and length can totally turn an outfit from boring, utilitarian, everyday Winter to fun, chic, classy, and colorful! They're also a great way to spice up your Winter wardrobe without breaking your budget at all. Since most winter coats are black, anything goes in terms of color so this is your chance to have fun with your clothes!

Read on and together, we'll turn your winter blues into fun winter accessories!

Scarves! I adore scarves for every season, but they're sort of a give-in for Winter. These are some cute examples of awesome ways to add whimsical, girly, Winter colors and lightness to an otherwise monochrome Winter outfit.

Adding lace is just my favorite way to take something into flirty date mode. And even if I'm just taking myself out to dinner and a movie, then there will be lace. This adorable lace tube scarf from H&M adds just the right amount of classy, tasteful lace. The white knit areas add some lightness to your outfit, too!
Sparkle is another thing that's easy to add and makes a huge difference. This sparkled knit scarf from Forever 21 is very similar to a women's Loro Piana scarf from this season which has since sold out and was valued at a couple hundred dollars. The light neutral color with the added shine lifts your boring black coat into a pulled together, grown up girly, sparkle fest. Every girl needs a sparkle scarf, let's just face it.
Faux fur! If you're into the "I sweat money" look, fur is the way to go. This dusty rose faux fur infinity scarf from Forever 21 is totally Blair Waldorf approved and will keep you warm as anything! It's just so "Upper West Side glam" to me. And I should know, I work around there. Trust me. It's the easiest way to turn your Winter blues into champagne roses.

I really do not want you to think that beanies are the only way to go when it comes to cranial winter warming devices. Or hats. Whatever. In my humble opinion, beanies are overstaying their welcome. Not that I don't have 2 or 20 of them. There are other options! Get creative! Here are a few options that introduce color, texture, sparkle, and creativity.

So, I added a beanie. Totally to appease you guys, my loyal viewers. Promise. Beanies=old news, I swear. I don't like this one. Nope. Totally don't own it myself and wear it everyday. From now on, just...ignore me. I love beanies, I hate beanies; it's a complicated relationship. This is a Madeleine Thompson cashmere beanie from Net-a-Porter. I adore the texture of this and adding texture to any outfit makes it instantly more interesting. A thick knit like this is classic and will never go out of style, beanie or otherwise. A creamy white like this one is also going to bring the attention to your glorious glowing skin, too!

Don't let anyone tell you you can't wear wide brim hats after labor day. It's nonsense. Wide brim hats are a boho, wonderland, paradise of Winter warmth and style, trust me. This hat from Urban Outfitters is a gorgeous burnt umber tone with an earthy leather trim. It's going to keep you warm and super trendy; I mean, boho is in and you'll be ahead of the game for Spring. The color is everything, too. It'll add a bit of warmth to your pale Winter complexion.

Knit headwraps are my number one, essential, holy grail, all time favorite Winter accessory. There, I said it and I meant it. This one is in black for those of you who are totally into that metropolitan, artsy, monochrome aesthetic, like me. It's a gorgeous, textural, chunky knit with a sparkly, beaded embellishment from Urban Outfitters again. Sparkle! It works wonders, I promise. I have a decent collection of knit headwraps and they are so flattering. Long hair, short hair, looks bad in hats, looks great in hats: all kinds can wear these things and look effortlessly chic. Next time you see a knit headwrap, pick it up. I mean, it's March, so it'll probably be on sale, too. There is nothing keeping you from these things. Get one.

I hope these examples inspired you to add some bright, fun colors, textures, and shine to your dull Winter wardrobe! Tweet me or comment below with your faves or how you like to liven up your Winter while staying warm, chic, and fabulous!

Also, Tweet me or comment below with a drugstore makeup product, if you like it, love it, hate it, or just want me to try it. Don't tell me anything about the product, just the name. I'll mention you in my upcoming video on YouTube, and then you'll understand.

Thanks guys and have fun!
