Drugstore Interview Makeup by lamodemoderne
Hey, babes! So, since the whole video thing simply is not
working out for us, I'm going to post beauty tutorials right here in
word format. If you like DressLikeGenevieve (where I do beauty
tutorials) or TheBeautyDepartment tutorials then you'll be super comfy
with these! I hope this works for you guys, and if you like it or don't
like it then go ahead and comment below.
I
got a request on my Tumblr for a fresh, less-than-basic interview hair
and makeup tutorial; you guys ask and I deliver! I'm going to keep this
look pretty drugstore so that everyone can afford it and try it out! Let
me know if you love it!
Makeup
Step One: Clean
your face. Your makeup will look better and your skin will be much
happier under your makeup when there's a clean base. After you've washed
your face with your favorite cleanser, go ahead and use a light
moisturizer that absorbs easily and lasts. Your fave will probably do
just fine, don't worry!
Step Two:
Apply a primer. It keeps your makeup looking great longer and allows
you to apply your makeup with ease. Primer is very different for
everyone. For me, sometimes I just use serum as a primer because my skin
tends to be problematic. I use the new NYX Q10 Skin Elixir Renew. Loving it! Here are some of my favorite drugstore primers for all types of skin:
- Oily Skin: Neutrogena Shine Free Primer
- Large Pores: Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Filling Primer
- Dull Skin: L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer
- Dry Skin: NYX Honey Dew Me Up Serum & Primer
- Acne Prone Skin: NYX Skin Elixir Balance Tea Tree
- Sensitive Skin: Neutrogena Healthy Skin Primer
Step Three: Foundation
time! If you don't have brushes on you, your fingers will do just fine
to apply. Your foundation for an interview should be medium coverage.
Not too much that you'll look overly done, but not too little coverage
that you look like you don't care. A great medium coverage foundation
that is also a current favorite of mine is the Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous
foundation. Keeps me totally oil free, great coverage, and a beautiful
finish. And when I apply it with fingers it actually looks better
than when I apply with a brush, so that's why I chose this. It's also
totally affordable! Apply all over your face and blend into your neck
slightly.
Step Four: Concealer! Holy grail drugstore concealer is the Maybelline Fit Me
concealer. Apply it in a triangle below your eye. Don't go too close to
your waterline or you'll look like you tried too hard. Just below your
eye adds just enough light to your face. Blend it out on the tops of
your cheekbones as well to lightly highlight the area and give your face
gorgeous shape. Pat this in gently with your ring finger tip. If there
are any other dark areas on your face (corners of your mouth, sides of
your nose where there's redness, below your bottom lip, cupid's bow), go
ahead and pat some on there as well!
Step Five: Fill in your brows super lightly with the NYC Brow Palette.
It's one of my favorite drugstore products. Use the brush that comes
with the palette to fill in any sparse parts of your brows with the
powder and then go over all your brows with the wax to keep them in
place. Your brows frame your face but don't make your frame too intense!
Step Six: It's eye time! We're going to stay pretty simple but very sophisticated and pretty. Plus, it'll all be from the NYX Cosmetics Love in Paris
palette. Dab some of the Maybelline concealer on your eyelid to act as
an eyeshadow primer. Stay very light with all of these colors. You can
add, but it's hard to take away! With a flat brush and a light hand, pat
the second color of the top row (cool toned matte medium brown) on your
lid, and a little bit into the crease. Then, with the first color on
the bottom row (cool toned matte dark brown) and a fluffy shader brush,
apply color 1/3 of the way into the crease in a windshield wiper motion.
Then with the same brush (wipe off the last color) and the third color
of the third row ( a cool toned medium dark shimmery silver), blend into
the crease the rest of the way. With the L'Oreal Liner Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner add a thin, thin, thin
line on your eyelid, as close to your lashes as possible. If you're
feeling like a little fun, add a small wing starting from 3/4 of the way
down your lid. Add a coat of Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara for definition an volume and your eyes are done!
Step Seven: With a sheer, matte bronzer such as the Physician's Formula Mineral Airbrushed Pressed Bronzer
lightly add some warmth to your face. You're not really contouring,
just adding some slight, warming definition. For this purpose, just add
some to the hollows of your cheekbones. Add a peachy pink blush to wake
up your face add make you look awake and lovely. Something with a slight
shimmer wouldn't hurt. Try the Maybelline Master Highlight Powdered Blush. Apply it just above the hollow of your cheeks, not so much the apples. More sophisticated, trust me.
Step Eight: Add a nude pink lipstick that's perfect for your skin tone (post on how to find your nude right here!) or just a coat of your favorite lip balm. You're done!
Hair
A simple way to style your hair that's perfect for an interview is what I like to call the Galadriel.
If you don't like to use heat styling products, this is perfect for
you. If you have hair that has texture that's usually not conducive to
styling, this is also perfect! And super easy. Separate the front
section of your hair into two equal sections, then pin them back behind
your ears, leaving the rest of your hair loose and free. The Galadriel!
Makes sense now, huh?
Have fun and good luck!
